Kudos to all of you for surviving the UC Application process! That is quite an achievement in itself! Below are some “loose ends” you want to tie up before you relax and enjoy your winter break!
Review UC Application for Errors
There were sporadic reports for couple years of a system glitch that scrambled some applicants’ “Academic history” section after application submission. Be sure to review your submitted UC Application by clicking on the “View application” link after logging into your UC Application account, paying particular attention to the “Academic history” section. If you see any discrepancies between the submitted application and your original application, submit corrections AFTER you have set up an applicant account with each UC campus (find instructions here for freshman applicants and here for transfer applicants).
Review Payment Confirmation
The UC Application had some intermittent issues with the credit card payment processing service toward the end of November. Log back into your UC Application account and click on the “View fees & payments” link to verify that your payment was applied correctly.
Random Application Audit
Remember that the UC system conducts a random audit for a small sample of applicants each year. If you are selected for an audit, you should receive notice toward the end of December to provide proof for “one item from academic history, honors and awards, extracurricular activities, volunteer work and community service, special program participation, employment, or information contained in the personal insight responses.” Find more information here.
If you applied to a major that requires a supplemental application, your work is not done! Keep an eye on your email for the supplemental application instructions or check out the resources I posted here to help you get started (including information on how to figure out if your major requires a supplemental application if you are not sure).
Did a friend, a counselor, your parents, or someone you barely know give you advice or inspire courage when you were having doubts? Did a teacher squeeze you in for a recommendation letter even though he or she was completely swamped? Take a moment to thank those people for giving you the support you need to keep going.
With that in mind, I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your UC Application process and it was a pleasure to work with all of you, whether I have personally heard from you or not. I appreciate your dedication to academic excellence and perseverance despite the pandemic, and I know that you will go on to do great things!
If I was able to offer you advice or support during the UC Application process, please leave some words of appreciation in the comments below so I may include a selection of them on my Testimonials page.
