Boost Your GPA with Online High School Courses This Summer!

Freaking out because you need to repeat a class you didn’t pass during the school year? Need to squeeze in another AP class to boost the rigor of your schedule? Want to improve your GPA? Enroll now for summer online classes!

Remember that, to improve your GPA, all non-passing grades MUST be repeated PRIOR to the start of senior year! All UC-approved A-G (including AP and Honors) courses completed PRIOR to the start of senior year will be included in the GPA for admission evaluation!

Your local community college is usually your best bet (free if your counselor signs off on the enrollment). Online high school courses tend to be pricey, but they serve as an alternative if you need them (there are usually no hoops to jump through, just pay and take the classes).

You can find the most current list of online high schools with UC-approved A-G courses (including AP/Honors) here. This is not a comprehensive list and only includes schools that 1) offer students the option to take individual courses (rather than requiring full-time enrollment); 2) issue a separate transcript (so there’s no need to get your home high school involved if that is an issue); and 3) are reasonably priced (I excluded the ones that charge more than $1,000 per course). For each school there is a direct link to the UC-approved A-G course list; make sure you verify the classes you want to take are on the list before enrolling.

What occurs if an online course is finished after the start of senior year?

UCs do not include senior year grades into the GPA calculated for admission evaluation.

I took a 4 unit Intro to astronomy summer class at UC Berkeley between my junior and senior year of high school. Will this count towards my UC admissions GPA?

Yes, on the UC App, report UC Berkeley as a college attended while in high school and then report the course under that.
