From the Orange County Register, UCI rescinds 500 admission offers; student leaders demand apology (July 27, 2017):

UC Irvine has rescinded more than 500 admissions for the fall and some students are calling foul, saying the university has erroneously revoked their admittances.

The university withdrew 503 admission offers: 294 were related to transcript issues, and 209 to grade issues…. Students can appeal those decisions; so far, 56 have regained their admission spots …

That depends on how competitive the major is and whether you’ll have “high flunking rate” classes in-progress (for example, high-level math, organic chemistry, physics, etc.).

Are most of the cancellations due to people putting wrong grades on their UC application and getting caught or getting bad spring semester grades?

Based on the numbers reported in the article, it sounds like about 60% of the cancellations were due to missed deadline (what I presume to be the “transcript issues”) and 40% of the cancellations were due to grades (which could be discrepancies between the UC Application and the final transcript and/or bad spring grades).
