UC Application Verification

Sounds like the UC Application verification requests went out yesterday (1/2/2018). Check the email address associated with your UC Application and be sure to check your spam/junk folder as well. The verification requests supposedly go out to approximately 10% of the applicant pool (both freshman and transfer applicants; randomly selected).

If you received a request, respond before the stated deadline; not responding will cause your UC Application to be canceled. Review the instructions carefully for examples of acceptable verification documents. If you are unable to provide proof for the selected item, reply to the request with a clear explanation of the reason(s). If the explanation is deemed acceptable, the UCs will choose a different item to verify.

The verification process does NOT delay review of your UC Application. Your application is being reviewed separately by each UC campus. The verification results are checked before admission decisions are sent out (admission decisions for those who failed to provide proof will be tossed).

Remember that this is a data verification request; anything that can definitively prove your participation will do (within the parameters of the instructions). There’s no need to go out of your way to get glowing recommendation letters, since the people reviewing the verification forms do NOT make admission decisions.

If a letter from someone is necessary to prove your participation, it’s perfectly fine that the letter just regurgitates the information on your UC Application. For example:

    Does UC require all SAT score? If so, what should I do if I only sent the one with the highest score?

      UCs ask for all scores, but there is no penalty if you only sent one.

    Who is the verification email from and what does it say? I’d like my son to search his inbox for the email address and key words, to make sure it he didn’t miss it. Do they send a reminder if they don’t hear from you? Thanks!

      Last time someone sent me a copy of the verification request, the email address on the request was [email protected]. But that was a while back, so I don’t know for sure if that is still the case. You should get a reminder before the request deadline (usually at the end of January).

    Besides the UC Application verification requests, do the admissions use any other method for verification, such as calling places I volunteered, etc? I’m worried that there might be miscommunication in cases like that.

      The systemwide audit is the only “regular” verification in place. Some UCs have indicated that targeted audit may be initiated, but I have never heard of such cases (doesn’t mean it never happens, I just never heard anyone mentioning it).

      According to the most recent UC Counselors and Advisers Bulletin (which I will post soon), all of the requests supposedly went out toward the end of December.

    Hello, I recently had a schedule change for my 2nd semester of senior year. I stated on my UC application that I was going to drop a class in my 2nd semester, however I ended up finding space on my schedule for the class. I will be taking that specific class that I stated I was going to drop on my UC application. How do I go reporting this to UCs? Do I email all 8 UCs I applied to? I emailed [email protected] my schedule change already. Is that enough?

      For the UCs that give you the option to send a message or an update through your applicant portal, go ahead and send an update about the class.
