Berkeley Early Admission Notification (Freshman Applicants)

Sounds like UC Berkeley made acceptance offers to a batch of freshman applicants yesterday (Wednesday, February 10, 2021). According to Berkeley’s February 9, 2021 issue of the Admissions Bulletin for Counselors:

Last year, just under 8 percent of our fall 2020 freshman admits were notified of their admission decision in February, the majority of whom were candidates for our Regents’ & Chancellor’s scholarship. The vast majority of freshman applicants will receive an admission decision on March 25, 2021.

Congratulations to those of you who were admitted! Those of you who haven’t heard, hang in there!

Did they send everyone the email letting them know about early admissions but letting them know they will hear in Mid March during the regular release? I thought they usually release at the end of March?

I don’t think the campus sent an email to all of the applicants. But I did read somewhere that MAP@Berkeley portal had a status update that showed freshman decisions will be released on or before March 25, 2021.

Berkeley has been releasing freshman decisions on the last Thursday of March for several years now. So the timing is consistent.

If a Regents Scholarship-earner declines admission to UC Berkeley, does the school give their scholarship to someone else?

From what I understand, the financial aid office should have a prediction of approximately how many students will take the offer and award the scholarships accordingly (even with Regents, Berkeley won’t get 100% yield on the offers; but the campus will make a moderate estimate to ensure there is enough money to go around). I believe any unused scholarship awards go back to the scholarship fund pool but I’m not sure if it just sits there or gets redistributed (as more scholarships) or allocated another way (like additional perks for scholarship recipients).

Do you know if the MET program at UC Berkeley has already released their offers? If so, is it a full list or partially? Thanks.

I believe all of the MET admits are notified during the early batch (in February). If you are not admitted to MET, you should be considered for admission to the College of Letters & Science, which would notify with the regular batch (March 25, 2021).

My daughter has 4.4 weighted GPA. She applied to all UCs except for Merced. She has received admissions to all UCs (with Regents and Chancellor scholarships for some) and on UCLA waitlist. She was not in the February 25th UC Berkeley batch. Do you think by applying to all UCs may have hurt her chance with UCLA and Berkeley? Someone advised me afterwards that UCs share applicant data so we should’ve been selective in where we apply. Is there some truth to that?

Answer to your first question is no. Answer to your second question is also no. Berkeley decisions will be out tomorrow evening. Don’t get too worked up now, you’ll exhaust yourself.

At what time you will send the letters today?

I think the general consensus is that UC Berkeley will release the decisions in the afternoon (probably between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.). I will post an update when I hear from students that the decisions have been released. (Note that I am NOT UC Berkeley.)
