UCSB Chancellor’s Reception Invitation

Sounds like UC Santa Barbara mailed out invitations for the Chancellor’s Receptions (in San Jose, Los Angeles, and New York) to freshman applicants in late February. Between 2017 and the pandemic (when the campus discontinued the events), the campus seemed to have only invited admitted freshmen to the receptions. It is unclear to me if only admitted freshmen are invited to this year’s reception or if the reception is open to all freshman applicants in those areas (I asked UCSB at a conference I went to on 3/1/2024 and, per usual, got a nonanswer).

In the past, invited students were preloaded into the RSVP site (when you tried to RSVP, you would either get a confirmation, meaning you were invited, or the system wouldn’t recognized you, meaning you were not invited). I’m not sure if this would work as “portal astrology” (because I know that’s what you are thinking!) but I should point out that only students close to the cities where the receptions are taking place were invited (likely a very small number of applicants).

There is absolutely NO NEED TO PANIC if you didn’t receive an invitation. Regular freshman decisions should be released in late March (my best guess is March 19, 2024).

I got an email from UCLA bringing awareness about their student clubs, activities and such. Did everyone get that?

It let me sign up for the LA event even though I didn’t get any mail. I live an hour from LA

If you end up going, let me know what happens at the event!

Same experience for my son (L.A. event), when I tried out of curiosity after reading this post. We live 5-6 hours away, so won’t go and I canceled right away. But seems odd. Confirmation said that event was by invitation only, but not really apparently (though maybe we’d be getting the bum rush out of there after all if we showed up).

Another parent messaged me and said that UCSB sent an email stating the student didn’t have an invitation and the RSVP was canceled.
