UC Transfer Academic Update Priority Deadline is TOMORROW!

Remember that the priority deadline for the Transfer Academic Update is tomorrow just before midnight. Final grades for Fall 2017 submitted by the deadline will be calculated into your GPA for admission evaluation. You may continue to update your grades, in-progress courses, or planned courses for Winter and/or Spring term through the Transfer Academic Update until the end of March, but the UCs do not guarantee consideration for grades or changes submitted after the priority deadline.

Please note that ONLY FALL GRADES will be included in the GPA used for admission evaluation; any 2018 winter intersession or spring short term courses, even if the grades become available before January 31, 2018, will not be included in the GPA used for admission evaluation (although I recommend updating/including them, especially if they can help boost your academic profile). To complete the Transfer Academic Update, simply log back into your UC Application.

Berkeley requires a separate update which can be accessed through MAP@Berkeley. Berkeley transfer applicants MUST complete BOTH the UC Transfer Academic Update and the MAP@Berkeley update in order to be considered for admission.

Keep in mind that some UC campuses may hold you accountable for planned summer courses (and cancel your admission offer when you don’t come through; I have heard of a few instances of such cancellations). Do NOT put down summer courses unless you know for sure that 1) the courses will actually be offered; and 2) you are fully committed to complete the courses.

Do you know if the admission counselors on the UCLA website are the ones who read your application?

Maybe. Supposedly some of the more straightforward transfer applications get delegated to external readers. But I assume all transfer applications must pass through the hands of an admission officer at some point; whether that person is the “assigned” admission officer to your community college is debatable.

What if my gpa went up post fall but grade went down in a major course (it was a C) vs. pre-fall lower gpa but straight A’s in major. update in march or now? applied to all top UCs.

If you are applying to a really competitive major, the C might give the UCs pause. Since I don’t know your grade trend or anything else that may affect how your academic profile is perceived, I don’t have any concrete suggestions.

What’s the class that you got a C in?

Do you think its true that some lower or mid tier UC’s sometimes reject higher achieving students who have a shot at UCLA/UCB because they know the student wont end up picking them, and they want to maintain a yield rate? or is that not true at all?

There’s a lot of speculation that Davis does that. But we’ll never know what UCs do behind closed doors (the system is a self-governing entity that takes tax dollars from the state and has zero accountability).
